Good Storage Practices – for scientific considerations

A well planned sample management strategy is very much essential for research centers, laboratories, medical centers, pharmaceutical companies, etc. It is important to consider things like cold chain logistics storage, centralized sample inventory system along with information management systems that will help in tracking and managing data. However, very often, companies overlook the aspect of good storage practices and do not develop any strategy for the storage of the biological samples on a long term basis. Not having a strategy in place for effective good storage practices will affect the pharmaceutical companies and other biotech companies as the intrinsic value of the samples will come down drastically, resulting in a loss of millions of dollars.

Good Storage practices have a very strong impact on the scientific research. It helps in understanding the disease history much better as it helps in establishing the history of the diseases. Further, the samples stored from a variety of sources actually help the researchers to learn more about the progression of the disease and help them understand how the disease has evolved from the initial stages. Further, good storage practices help in understanding and detecting diseases in the future.  Moreover, a proper storage practice helps in addressing the needs of specialized groups of people who react differently to normal drugs.
